On Friday night, the first day of Houston's Astroworld Festival ended in tragedy when 8 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in a stampede that broke out during Travis Scott's sold-out show. The festival drew a crowd of 50,000, according to TMZ, and around 9 p.m., the crowd reportedly began surging toward the stage.
"People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic," Houston fire chief Sam Pena said of the incident (per TMZ).
On Saturday, Travis, who continued to perform as the tragic events unfolded, took to Twitter to share a statement and to pledge his support as Houston police investigate the incident.
"I'm absolutely devastated by what took place last night," the rapper wrote in a note screenshot. "My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life. I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department, and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All."

Travis isn't the only celebrity who has spoken out about the Astroworld Festival deaths. Later on Saturday, Kylie Jenner shared in an Instagram Story that she and Travis are both "broken and devastated" in the wake of the tragedy. She also addressed the fact that Travis continued to perform as the stampede was happening, something the rapper has faced criticism for—particularly on social media, where many have shared videos depicting the tragic events at the festival.
"Travis and I are broken and devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives, were injured or affected in any way by yesterday's events. And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans and the Houston community," Kylie wrote. "I want to make it clear we weren't aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing. I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time and will be praying for the healing of everyone who has been impacted."
SZA, who was one of the performers at the festival, tweeted support for those who lost loved ones in the deadly stampede and expressed her continued shock about the tragedy.
"Speechless about last night I'm actually in shock n don't even know what to say," she wrote. "Just praying for everyone in Houston especially the families of those that lost their lives."
